Meet Georgina
Georgina Ambrum is a Torres Strait Islander Social Worker, Mental Health Practitioner and Family Safety, Parenting and Domestic & Family Violence Practice Specialist from Bunna Binda Country, Babinda, Far North Queensland.
As the Founder and Practice Lead of Heart-based, Georgina brings together expertise in domestic and family violence, child protection, mental health, parenting, cultural capability and family safety interventions to support safer families, stronger communities and more accountable systems.
Georgina holds a Bachelor of Social Work and a postgraduate Master of Mental Health Practice and is an active member of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). Throughout her career, she has worked across child protection, child and family trauma, intergenerational trauma, mental health and domestic and family violence, supporting children, young people, families and the professionals who work alongside them.
Her practice is grounded in the belief that meaningful change occurs when knowledge is combined with reflection and action. Drawing on Torres Strait Islander perspectives, social work values and evidence-informed practice, Georgina supports organisations, practitioners and families to strengthen safety, wellbeing and connection.
Georgina is a Certified Safe & Together™ Trainer and has completed the Safe & Together™ Supervisor and Manager Train-the-Trainer program. She specialises in supporting organisations to strengthen perpetrator pattern-based practice, partner with victim-survivors and improve outcomes for children impacted by domestic and family violence.
In addition to workforce development and consultancy, Georgina delivers family safety interventions and evidence-informed parenting and healing programs. She is trained to facilitate Circle of Security Parenting®, Bringing Up Great Kids, Triple P, Engaging Adolescents, Shark Cage® for Adult Women and Shark Cage® for Young Women.
Georgina's unique combination of experience spans direct practice, workforce development, leadership support and systems change. She understands both the realities faced by families navigating adversity and the challenges experienced by organisations striving to deliver safe, effective and culturally responsive services.
Through Heart-based, Georgina partners with government agencies, non-government organisations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community-Controlled Organisations, schools, health services and community organisations to build capability, strengthen practice and improve outcomes for children, families and communities.
At the heart of Georgina's work is a commitment to relationships, accountability and connection. She believes that safer families are created when organisations are supported to work differently, when victim-survivors are recognised for their strengths, when perpetrators are held accountable for their choices and actions, and when children remain at the centre of practice.
